Bokeem Woodbine and RZA will join Luke Goss in the action/thriller AWOL 72, from Triumphant Entertainment.
Christian Sesma is directing from a script he co-wrote with Cecil Chambers, which tells the story of an AWOL marine in possession of secret government information, who becomes a wanted man, pursued by Russian special ops, the LAPD, and a dangerous assassin.
Goss stars as the marine, with Woodbine playing the dangerous assassin, and RZA the LAPD detective, both on Goss’ trail.
Triumphant will produce and finance the action-thriller which starts shooting in L.A. early next year.
XLrator Media will release stateside.
Bokeem was most recently seen in Riddick, and will next appear in Tommy Oliver’s drama 1982.
Meanwhile, RZA’s been piling up directing projects; he recently revealed that he’s working on a sequel of sorts to his directorial debut The Man With The Iron Fist. On top of that, he also has One Spoon Of Chocolate, Sting Of The Scorpion, John Milius’ Genghis Khan biopic, as well as an action thriller titled No Man’s Land, and an adaptation of comic book author Grant Morrison’s latest work, Happy!. He’s also written a treatment for a horror film called Tasmania, which he’s called “a crazy one,” and he has an idea for a comedy called Down To The Last Buck.
Clearly, he’s kept himself busy, writing. Whether any of these films will see the light of day is anyone’s guess. Financing is always the toughest lap to run, especially where original ideas are concerned.
