I’m not familiar with Mary “HoneyB” Morrison or her works – specifically the Soulmates Dissipate series mentioned here. Anyone read any of them? If so, clue the rest of us in on what to expect is contained within the pages; or should I take a wild guess? 🙂

Anyway, it looks like Jeff Clanagan and his CodeBlack Entertainment see some value in her novels, and have struck a multi-film development deal with the New York Times bestselling author to produce 7 films based on her Soulmates Dissipate series of books.

The deal also includes producer/director Leslie Small, who, I’m guessing, will helm some, or all of the 7 pictures. Small’s resume includes directing several comedy concert series, plus 2004’s Hair Show which starred Mo’Nique.

The deal was apparently announced at the just-ended 15th annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF). Oddly enough, I was there for the duration of the festival, but I don’t recall anyone talking about what appears to be a significant deal; and I did talk to a lot of people about a lot of things.

Reminds me of the deal Tracey Edmonds’ company recently announced to produce films based on E. Lynn Harris’ literary oeuvre, with Ted Witcher adapting the 1st.
