If you are one of those who’s been hoping that his move into acting was just a passing engagement for rapper Common, I’m sorry to break it to you, but it doesn’t look that way. 

He’s on fire and in demand, at the moment, apparently! Hustle… hustle… hustle… I guess.

In the last week alone, he’s joined the cast of the WB’s "Suicide Squad" big screen adaptation, although there’s no word yet on what character he’s signed up to play; he also joined the cast of director Rob Reiner’s next project, "Being Charlie," in a lead role; his other post-"Selma" credits include the crime drama "Run All Night" with Liam Neeson and Ed Harris, which was released last month, and, coming up, the action thriller "Hunter Killer" with Gerard Butler, William Dafoe and Billy Bob Thornton, which is currently in pre-production.

Common has now signed up to star in Barbershop 3, joining returning stars Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer, which Malcolm D. Lee is attached to direct, from a script penned by "Black-Ish" creator, Kenya Barris (who’s also stacked up a few new projects very recently) and Tracy Oliver.

Frankly, as I’ve said before, I really could do without a 3rd "Barbershop" movie (just as I’m not at all interested in another "Friday" movie, which Ice Cube has been pushing to get made; or the majority of the other prequels and sequels that are in the works), and I was a big fan of the first Barbershop (and the first "Friday" movie); but I’m *nobody*, and my single voice or vote is of no influence on these decisions, as it looks like the stars have aligned in favor of another "Barbershop" movie, which MGM is indeed moving forward on, 11 years after the second film, which was released 2 years after the first.

So much time has passed between the last film, and this upcoming threequel, that it’s hard to say, at this point, if that fact will work in its favor, or against it. We’ll find out eventually.

No word on plot yet. At least, nothing that I’m aware of.

What we do know right now is that Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer are expected to reprise their roles, and Common joining them, with Cube’s Cube Vision shingle producing. 

Collectively, the first 2 movies grossed $140 million domestically on comparitively low budgets, and were financial successes for the studio.

Ice Cube is certainly also keeping himself busy, with a sequel to the box office smash "Ride Along" on the way, and the N.W.A. biopic, "Straight Outta Compton," set for release this summer.
