Just received a press release announcing Common’s attachment to an independent feature film titled L.U.V., which centers on a day in the life of William “Woody” Watson (played by newcomer Michael Rainey Jr), a shy and timid 13-year old in search of a family and a better life, who looks to his Uncle Vincent, an ex-con, played by Common, hoping to find the father figure he’s never had. However, Uncle Vincent’s past life of crime catches up to him, and young William is forced to decide on whether to stay on his uncle’s side, or against him.

Joining Common (who is also acting as one of the producers on the project) are be an all-star cast of mostly seasoned actors in Dennis Haysbert, Danny Glover , Charles S. Dutton, Lonette McKee, Megan Good, Michael K. Williams, Russell Hornsby, and Tracey Heggins.

Sheldon Candis, a graduate of the USC School of Cinematic Arts, whose past credits include mostly short films and documentaries, will direct the film, his feature film debut, from his own script, with principal photography set to begin this week in Baltimore.

Worth noting, the project was developed in the Film Independent Directors Lab.

Hmm… I’m not much of a fan of Common’s acting, though he seems to be trying to improve with each successive project; but I’ll say that, given the folks involved, and the film’s pedigree, I’m definitely curious about this one…
