David Oyelowo is apparently having a very good year!

Currently co-starring in Lee Daniels’ The Butler, the 37-year-old thespian can add BN Films’ thriller Captive to his burgeoning slate of upcoming projects that includes Cynthia Mort’s Nina Simone film; starring as Sugar Ray Robinson in a previously-announced biopic; an indie drama titled Nightingale; reuniting with director Ava DuVernay to play MLK in Selma; currently shooting Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar; is said to have met with director JJ Abrams regarding a role in the upcoming Star Wars franchise reboot; and more…

Oyelowo has signed up to star alongside Kate Mara in Captive, a thriller based on the true 2005, Atlanta, GA-set story of a man named Brian Nichols, who escaped from a courthouse jail and killed the judge assigned to his case, as well as the court reporter, sherriff’s deputy and an FBI officer. He then led federal and local police on a statewide manhunt, during which he took a single mother with a drug addiction hostage in her own apartment, where she would eventually use the wisdom from a book in her possession (Rick Warren’s The Purpose Driven Life) to reason with Nichols.

Oyelowo will play Brian Nichols, while Kate Mara will play the single mother he takes hostage – Ashley Smith

Leonor Varela and Mimi Rogers are rounding out the cast.

Katrina Wolfe, Jonathan Gray, Ralph Winter, Elliott Lester and Bird are executive producing.

Principal photography is set to begin later this month.
