The 90-minute pilot episode of the new Queen Latifah-produced original scripted VH1 series called Single Ladies that serves as an introduction to what will be a weekly series to follow later, in July, debuted earlier this week, and if the reviews I read were of any indication, it didn’t go over well with audiences… some audiences anyway. I’m sure the series has its audience, and if they were watching, or have watched it since, I’d guess that they loved it! 🙂

The dramedy centers on a group of best friends with different philosophies on sex and relationships, set in the world of Atlanta fashion, music, and celebrity, with Lisa Raye & Stacey Dash, Lauren London and others starring.

The numbers are out, and the two-hour premiere drew an impressive 1.8 million total viewers; and, when combined with the encore presentation of the season premiere of Basketball Wives, now in its 3rd season on the network, which saw its numbers up 36 percent from the previous season’s premiere, VH1scored its highest rated night since October of 2009!

Wow! Didn’t realize Basketball Wives was a draw; although Single Ladies doesn’t have the years yet, and still will be tested. VH1 already ordered 8 episodes of the new series which has long been compared to HBO’s Sex In The City. Not sure if that comparison still holds, after this week’s premiere.

But the series’ real test will come when it begins its regular season run on VH1 in July; Let’s see how many of those 1.8 million viewers who tuned in to watch the premiere, return.

I didn’t watch it; I don’t have cable; but, luckily, VH1 made the entire 90-minute pilot episode available to view online, for those who missed it last night. I watched about 20 minutes of it, and had to shut it off! Not for me.
