Cuba Gooding Jr will play Dwayne Johnson, a counselor at a youth correctional facility in an upcoming ABC movie titled Firelight (once called Crew 6, with Terence Howard previously eyed for the lead), which is scheduled to air on April 22 from 9pm to 11pm.

Darnell Martin is attached to direct.

Gooding Jr.'s character, nicknamed DJ, is said to be a counselor at a youth correctional facility where "the incarcerated girls and young women come from trouble, often violent, backgrounds."

As noted in a previous post, he trains the kids to battle forest fires and assist the public during other natural disasters.

Joining Gooding Jr. in the film are DeWanda Wise, Yakina Horn and Q'Orianka Kilcher. Long-time readers of this site will recognize DeWanda Wise; she starred in 2 short films we've featured on the site: Nikyatu Jusu's S&A Filmmaker Challenge winning short film Black Swan Theory (photo above), and Darius Clark Monroe's Train. So this must be pretty big for Dewanda! Congrats!

By the way, Alicia Keys is serving as an executive producer pn the project.
