He may have not had very much to do in X-Men: First Class (currently in theaters), but Edi Gathegi will be chewing up lots of stage time in a new play at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, which opens tonight!

The play, titled Superior Donuts, written by Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts, centers on the unlikely friendship that blossoms between Arthur (played by Gary Cole), “a disillusioned Chicago donut shop owner” and his newly hired employee Franco (played by Gathegi), “an eager young dreamer.”

Geffen Playhouse calls it, “a heart-warming and humorous tale… in one of Chicago’s most diverse neighborhoods.

The play will run through July 10.

It actually ran on Broadway in the fall of 2009. Jon Michael Hill of tv series, Detroit 1-8-7, played the role of Franco.

Good to know Edi has stage cred.
