Wakanda and the Johnsons reigned supreme during Sunday’s NAACP Image Awards.
Marvel’s Black Panther won a whopping 10 awards, with Ryan Coogler winning for Outstanding Directing in a Motion Picture, Chadwick Boseman winning Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture and Michael B. Jordan for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. Danai Gurira also won for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture and Letitia Wright for Outstanding Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture.
The cast earned the award for Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture, and the film itself won Outstanding Motion Picture. Coogler and Joe Robert Cole won the award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture, and Kendrick Lamar won Outstanding Soundtrack/Compilation for Black Panther The Album Music From and Inspired By. Lamar and SZA’s top track from the album, “All the Stars,” also received the award for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration.
Incredibly enough, Jordan won twice during the awards show–his other win was for his starring role in his HBO-produced television movie Fahrenheit 451.
ABC’s hit sitcom Black-ish won five awards, winning Outstanding Comedy Series. Anthony Anderson was awarded Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, and Tracee Ellis Ross won the award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. Marcus Scribner and Marsai Martin also won awards for their supporting actor roles.
