The Season 7 finale of USA’s long-running drama, Suits will serve as a backdoor pilot of spinoff of the show centering around Gina Torres’ character Jessica Pearson, according to reports from several industry outlets.
The backdoor pilot/finale will see the characters “reunite Pearson as she adjusts to her new life in the Windy City. When she is forced to enter the dirty world of Chicago politics, Pearson must rely on her legal wits and valiant relationships from Pearson Specter Litt to navigate this unknown territory.
We told you plans of Torres starring in a Suits spinoff earlier this year. Torres, an original cast member, left the show after the Season 6 finale.
“Gina Torres is a terrific actress and a valued member of our family. Gina and Aaron have created a truly memorable character in Jessica Pearson, and we felt we owed it to the audience – and ourselves! – to follow her journey beyond the original show,” said Jeff Wachtel, chief content officer for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and president of Universal Cable Productions.

The planned spinoff will not be a legal drama like Suits, but will dive into the world of politics, based in Chicago.
The backdoor pilot will be executive produced and written by Suits creator and executive producer Aaron Korsh and executive producer Daniel Arkin.
Casting has begun for three new characters to be featured in the backdoor pilot, with plans for them to continue into the series. There are rumors that Dule Hill’s new character introduced this season on Suits may migrate to the series.
