Black Panther garnered critical acclaim for its action sequences, an abundance of melanin and costume design. But if we were to peg its breakout star, it would certainly be Letitia Wright, who wowed audiences for her lighthearted portrayal of Shuri, T’Challa’s vibranium touting sister.
Now it seems Wright is eager and ready to continue her beloved role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the MCM Comic-Con show in London, the Black Panther star said she would have no doubts stepping up to be ruler in lieu of Thanos’ actions in Avengers: Infinity War have left the Black Panther mantle vacant — at least temporarily.
“To be comic-book accurate, yes,” she said, when asked if Shuri would step up. For those unfamiliar with the comic books, Shuri is approved for the role of Black Panther in another absence of T’Challa and is and ruler of Wakanda due to her genius intellect and martial arts skills.
She also spoke about the discussion that technically, Shuri is a Disney princess. “I was like, ‘what’s this Disney Princess pressure? Do I have to be perfect?’ Then I realized that everyone’s just so geeked about having a different kind of female character in the Marvel universe and the Disney universe. And there’s going to be much, much more – I’m not the only Disney Princess to come to the surface and claim that title. I’m so honored, seriously. I grew up on the Disney movies and grew up with the Disney Princesses and they didn’t really look like me. But now, you can go buy action figures and say ‘this is a Disney Princess’ – right on!”
