The film will explore the life of Tyler Perry and is described as “a nod to Perry’s mother’s love and a tender, intimate portrait” of him.

Longtime fans are aware of Perry’s tumultuous childhood and upbringing, where he dealt with abuse and trauma, and the new film will explore his relationship with his mother, who, throughout all the trauma, was a constant in his life. The connection is a recurring theme in Perry’s works, which center on Black women overcoming overwhelming obstacles from all sides.

Nearly a decade in the making, with unfettered access, directors Gelila Bekele and Armani Ortiz lead us into the inner-world of a man, whose story has never fully been told, as he becomes a father and a media mogul with a mission to pave his own road to the top. The project is an Amazon Studios film. Through her production firm, Bekele Films, Bekele also serves as a producer. Also producing are Jasmine K. White and Asante White.
