Regé-Jean Page shocked the world when it was announced he wouldn’t come back to the second season of Netflix’s Bridgerton. While it is true that his series contract only lasted for one season, The Hollywood Reporter states that he was given an option to extend his contract for the upcoming second season but turned it down because of a mountain of new opportunities.

Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Page was given an opportunity to guest star in handful of episodes in the second season for a pay bump of $50,000 an episode, but he turned it down because his film career is heating up.

Page will be seen next in the Russo Brothers’ The Gray Man for Netflix, and is set to star in Paramount’s Dungeons and Dragons adaptation. THR’s sources also say that Page has been inundated with offers after Bridgerton and his extraordinary hosting night on Saturday Night Live.

While it might seem bold to turn down such a lucrative offer for Bridgerton, Page is clearly banking on his film career being worth much more than what a few episodes has to offer.

Seeing how his popularity has even made him jump to the head of the pack of actors fans want to see as James Bond, it makes sense to strike while the iron is hot.

The report says that the possibility of Page perhaps making an appearance in the third season of the show, should a third one be ordered, hhas not been ruled out by either party.
