Insecure star Yvonne Orji is bringing her life story to Disney+. Orji is developing autobiographical comedy series First Gen with David Oyelowo, Oprah Winfrey.
The series will draw from Orji’s experiences as a Nigerian immigrant trying to balance fitting into American culture while trying to appease her parents and heritage. Orji will executive produce.
Oyelowo will also executive produce via his production company Yoruba Saxon Productions with Winfrey and Carla Gardini executive producing through Winfrey’s Harpo Productions. 20th Television is the studio backing the project.
The news comes as Issa Rae announces that the fifth season of Insecure will be the final season. The fifth season will cap off the series’ run, which transformed HBO post-Game of Thrones into a network focused on Black stories.
