20th Century Fox has introduced an initiative it's calling Digital HD, which will make its films available for digital purchase a full 3 weeks before they are available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Customers will be able to purchase and download the films (in HD quality of course) to own for about $15, which is less that the price that new DVDs and Blu-rays usually go for, in the $15 to $30 range.

Digital HD will launch on TuesdaySeptember 18, in the U.S. and 49 countries, with Ridley Scott's Prometheus – a film that opened in theaters on June 8 (although it feels like it was just yesterday), and that's still in theaters.

Fox will also make an additional existing 600 library titles available via this new Digital HD initiative.

Participating partners include including Amazon, CinemaNow, iTunes, PlayStation, VUDU and Xbox.
