Grey’s Anatomy star James Pickens Jr. shared the first photo of the first-year surgical residents that are joining ABC’s long-running series.

“Let’s give a warm welcome to the new Interns of the Grey’s family, excited for season 19,” Pickens, Jr. captioned the picture.

Five new residents join the cast this season:

Niko Terho will be Lucas Adams, ‘a resident determined to prove himself as a surgeon.”

Adelaide Kane is Jules Millin, “raised by free thinking drug users” and “somehow emerged as the only real grown-up in the family.”

Midori Francis is Mika Yasuda, “a middle child of nine who finds strength in being overlooked.”

Harry Shum Jr. is Daniel “Blue” Kwan, “an impatient, but incredibly brilliant resident that is “generous by nature but competitive to a fault.”

Lastly, Alexis Floyd is Simone Griffin, a “Seattle-raised resident, that is an over-achiever and whip-smart, but never wanted to work at Grey Sloan because of a painful personal history with the hospital.”

Other changes to the cast this season includes the star, Ellen Pompeo scaling back as Meredith Grey.

Pompeo will only appear in eight episodes. She’ll continue executive producing along with voicing the narration.

Her limited capacity is a direct result of an upcoming untitled series for Hulu that she’s starring in and EP-ing.
