Jada Pinkett Smith is finally sharing her thoughts on her husband Will Smith’s infamous Oscars slap.
Two months after the incident, which saw Will Smith slapping Chris Rock across the face after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia, the actress briefly addressed the ordeal in a new episode of Red Table Talk.
Jada Pinkett Smith hopes Will Smith and Chris Rock will once day make amends.
“This is a really important Red Table Talk on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories. I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition and to inform people about what alopecia actually is,” Pinkett Smith said at the top of the new Red Table Talk episode before further commenting on the Oscars.
“Now about Oscar night, my deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out and reconcile,” she expressed.
“The state of the world today, we need them both. And we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s [to] keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”
This marks the first time Jada Pinkett Smith has publicly addressed the incident.
Although Jada Pinkett Smith is known for sharing her truth on Red Table Talk, this is the first time she has directly addressed Will Smith’s Oscars slap.
While the actress didn't go into detail about the incident or her feelings toward the infamous encounter, Red Table Talk shared a message about the ordeal at the top of the season premiere episode.
“Considering all that has happened in the last few weeks, the Smith family has been focused on deep healing,” the message read. “Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls.”
The message did not disclose at the time when the physical altercation between Smith and Rock would be addressed.
