After all the reports about Antoine Fuqua‘s Tupac Shakur biopic being dead in the water, now comes an exclusive story from NYMag; saying it looks like Fuqua is definitely out of the project and John Singleton, who directed Tupac in 1993’s Poetic Justice, is in talks to resurrect and direct the late rapper’s biopic.

Fuqua, who after a nationwide talent search did not find a suitable candidate to protray Pac on the big screen, has now moved on to other projects; the latest one being the Relativity Media submarine thriller Hunter Killer. Singleton, whose latest action thriller Abduction was received poorly by critics and audiences alike, we last announced to reunite Tyrese (according to his tweet) and Taraji P. Henson in an upcoming film.

The Tupac script is penned by Oscar-nominated screenwriters Stephen J. Rivele and Chris Wilkinson (Ali, Nixon), however, according to the report, Brian Tucker wrote the most recent draft. Tucker also wrote the neo-noir script for the Allen Hughes directed Broken City shooting next month.
