Columbia Pictures made it all possible by picking up distribution rights to the long-in-development project, which Academy Award winner Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) and journalist and screenwriter Mark Boal (who also won an Academy Award for The Hurt Locker), have reportedly been working on since 2008, 3 years before the mission that resulted in Osama bin Laden’s death.

The yet-to-be-titled film, which will incorporate those recent events into the film, will center on “the black ops mission to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, which culminated in his death earlier this month during a high-stakes raid on his compound in Pakistan.

I expect Bigelow and Boal to infuse the same kind of realism, authenticity and urgency that we all saw in the critically acclaimed Hurt Locker.

With the film expected to be release in 2012, principal photography will begin late summer, but no casting has been announced yet… and, of course, we all wait with anticipation to see what actors/actresses make the cut.

Stay tuned…
