Lionsgate has, once again, pushed the release date for Stuart Beattie’s I, Frankenstein, which has previously pushed back 7 months, from February 22 to September 13, 2013, and has now been moved again to January 24, 2014.

I mention this news because, for those who may not be aware, I, Frankenstein is a big screen adaptation of actor/screenwriter/writer Kevin Grevioux’s graphic novel of the same name. Kevin Grevioux is a black man, as you see in the image above.

You’ve probably seen some of his other work – the Underworld franchise of films, to start. He’s even appeared in the films as well, although behind make-up, so you might’ve missed him.

Also, a few titles from Grevioux’s DarkStorm Studios imprint have been optioned in recent years, like ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction, and The Gray Men.

Grevioux, a comic book writer and former microbiologist with a background in genetic engineering, said he based the original Underworld story on his experiences with interracial dating and the tensions that it often causes! 

Inspiration is everywhere, isn’t it?

We like to give *love* to those black talents working behind-the-scenes on these blockbuster Hollywood movies, whose names and faces aren’t widely-known, and who aren’t being paraded for fans like the movie stars (and directors) who bring their works to live-action life on the screen.

In I, Frankenstein, which stars Aaron Eckhart, the creature finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries-old war between two immortal clans, in a present day dark, gothic metropolis.

Grevioux is an exec-produce on the film as well, which the studio will release in 3D, and says has franchise potential, depending on how this first film does, obviously.

So, Grevioux, whom I hope we’ll interview eventually, could have himself another long-term deal, as he’s already seen with the Underworld series of films. 

But all this movement of the film’s release date by Lionsgate is bothersome…
