Tomorrow evening, Harlem Stage on Screen presents the world premiere of Thomas Allen Harris’ new documentary film, Marriage Equality: Byron Rushing and the Fight for Fairness at Aaron Davis Hall in Harlem. The film tells the story of State Representative Byron Rushing, a straight LGBT civil rights ally, who fought successfully for same-sex marriage in Massachusetts. The documentary provides an in depth look at the issue of Marriage Equality from the perspective of communities of color.

The community dialogue scheduled to follow the screening is being billed as the largest discussion of same-sex marriage and people of color in the country.

Washington Post Editorial writer and MSNBC contributor, Jonathan Capehart, will moderate, with a distinguished panel including Alfonso David – Deputy Secretary of Civil Rights for Gov. Cuomo, Rev. Irene Monroe, Cathy Marino-Thomas of Marriage Equality New York, advocate David Wilson and others.

The screening is presented in partnership with Tribeca Film Institute, the Human Rights Campaign and Chimpanzee Productions
