The entertainment world has suffered another major loss.
Singer and actress Marva Hicks passed away on Friday, September 16. She was 66. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Hicks was known for her roles as Rafiki on Broadway’s The Lion King, Caroline, or Change and Disney’s Motown The Musical. The Virginia native made her debut 1981’s Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music and made TV appearances on shows such as One Life to Live, Sister, Sister, L.A. Law and Madam Secretary.
Actress Holly Robinson Peete paid tribute to Hicks on her Twitter page last Saturday.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear Marva Hicks Taha,” Hicks' family said in a statement to Ebony.
“Our beloved wife, family member and friend will be greatly missed and remains marvelous in our hearts forever. The love she had for her husband, family, friends and entertainment community knew no bounds. We have been deeply touched by the incredible outpouring of love. Thank you for your compassion and prayers.”
Per a press release, she is “survived by her husband, Akwasi Taha and many family and life-long friends.”
