Mo’Nique’s comedy special with Netflix has been completed.
Who would have guessed that when Mo’Nique waged her campaign against Netflix and sued the company for discrimination a few years ago that she would now have a comedy special with the streamer? But that is the case after Mo’Nique and Netflix reached a settlement and have seemingly buried the hatchet. Now, Atlanta Black Star reports that the comedian has posted to Instagram that her she has finished filming her special, named “My Name is Mo’Nique.”
With a picture of her and her husband/manager Sidney Hicks in front of the theater marquee announcing her special, Mo'Nique wrote a thank you to her fans.
“My sweet babies thanks to everyone that came out and celebrated this moment with us,” she wrote, adding that her special is, in fact, coming to Netflix. “WHAT A MOMENT!! I LOVE US 4REAL,” she continued in all caps.

Lee Daniels, whom she had also recently made up with after a feud lasting over a decade and finished filming a role in his upcoming film, 'The Deliverance,' was the first in the comments, sending her heart emojis.
Her fans also sent her encouraging and congratulatory messages about how her trials have now become the basis for what seems like her upward trajectory in an industry she was once blackballed in.
As one commenter wrote, "I am so happy for you Monique. Your test has become your testimony and I am really looking forward to Netflix, chilling and LOL watching your special. Congrats sis!"
Mo’Nique’s road to this special has been long and arduous. Mo’Nique initially claimed the streamer had lowballed her for a prospective deal in 2017 and asked her fans to boycott the streamer to make her point. The fallout led to a public fallout with Steve Harvey, who brought her on his show to try to convince her to let her campaign go. Mo’Nique later sued Netflix in 2019 for discrimination. The case was dismissed in 2022 with the two parties coming to a monetary settlement agreement.
