nullHere’s another clip from MandelaLong Walk to Freedom, which stars Idris Elba as Nelson Mandela and Naomie Harris as Winnie Mandela, in a film directed by Justin Chadwick, which highlights Mandela’s early life, education and 27 years in prison. 

The Weinstein Company will open the film in the USA on November 29 – likely as one of its Oscar contenders. Reactions and reviews after its TIFF premiere last month were mostly strong.

South African stars Tony KgorogeRiaad Moosa, Zolani MkivaJamie Bartlett, Lindiwe MatshikizaDeon Lotz and Terry Pheto, round out the cast.

The new clip below highlights the Sharpeville Massacre – the tragic March 1960 event during which South African police opened fire on several thousand demonstrators, who were protesting against the “pass laws,” at the township of Sharpeville, killing 69 and injuring over 100. This event signaled the start of armed resistance in South Africa, and prompted worldwide condemnation of South Africa’s Apartheid policies.
