Hollywood, CA–Los Angeles filmmakers Ci Ci Foster and Mashari Bain are set tomake history with their debut DVD, “I Heart Hollywood,” the first documentary on the market that chronicles the real lives of 14 actresses on the path to stardom.
An honest, gripping film that depicts the battles and triumphs of African American and other women of color in Hollywood, “I Heart Hollywood” features African American actresses J. Nicole Brooks, an actress and writer who wrote the Jeff Award nominated political satire Black Diamond: The Years the Locusts Have Eaten, andOchuwa Oghie, an actress who appears in the TV series Touch, Grey’s Anatomy, and many others. Bain and Foster also share their personal stories of success and challenges while breaking into the industry. Foster and Bain, both from Chicago, left the windy city to become successful Hollywood actresses, and ended up becoming inspiring film producers in the process.
While statistics show that there is a shortage of African American producers, Bain and Foster are planning to change that, and are following the path of famedfilmmakers Tyler Perry, John Singleton, and Ava Duvernay by carving their own path in the industry and creating quality films that speak to the minds and hearts of African Americans. The duo created Flower Goddess Productions in 2009 toopen up new doors for black actresses, and to provide new roles not seen on the big screen. “We want to show the world that black actors can play more positive, strong characters. Our goal as producers is to create more diverse roles for African American actors in Hollywood,” states Foster.
Both college grads, Foster and Bain are preparing to speak at various college campuses and universities, including Historically Black Universities across the country to spread their knowledge and experiences to students. “Our primary goal is to educate and motivate students who are aspiring actors and filmmakers. We want to let them know we have been where they are, and that if they follow their dreams, and create a plan for themselves, a thriving career in Hollywood is within their reach,” states Bain. To give aspiring filmmaker’s new opportunities, Ci Ci Foster is currently seeking short film submissions to showcase for the 4 Hearts Red Carpet Short Film Showcase, taking place on Saturday, July 21, 2012.
