Nothing new in wide release this coming weekend, but a few limited-release titles you should be aware of, starting with AFFRM's 3rd release, Andrew Dosunmu's visually-stunning immigrant tale Restless City, which, I assume, you're very well familiar with by now, given how much we've talked about it in recent weeks.
It opens in NY, LA, and ATL on April 27, and then expands to Philly, Seattle, Detroit, Chicago and Washington DC on May 4.
Also new in theaters will be the documentary, Booker's Place: A Mississippi Story, which was acquired by Tribeca Film, and described as a intensely personal film about children struggling to understand their parents, as wellas a heartbreaking portrait of the legacy of intolerance. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival (which is currently in full swing) in the Spotlight section.
The film will be released simultaneously in theaters and digital VOD services such as iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, Vudu and Samsung Media Hub, on April 25 (theaters) and April 26 (VOD).
And last but not least, Aimee Lagos' drama/thriller 96 Minutes, the 2011 SXSW award-winning drama/thriller (Evan Ross – Breakthrough Performance), and Boston Film Festival award recipient (Best Director for Aimee Lagos, Best Actress for Brittany Snow, & Best Film).
David Oyelowo, Christian Serratos and J. Michael Trautmann, amongst others, also co-star.
The film was acquired last fall by ARC Entertainment and XLrator Media (North American rights specifically) in a partnership that will see it make its theatrical premiere this Friday, April 27th.
Of course, still fresh will be Rainforest Films' Think Like A Man and CodeBlack's Woman Thou Art Loosed: On The 7th Day.
Should be a weekend worth watching to see how well each of these films performs – those that will be opening, as well as those in their 2nd and 3rd weeks.
