For our readers in the UK (although I think this is a doc that should interest us all), Genesis Cinema in London will host an exclusive screening of Riot From Wrong, which will be followed by a Q&A session!

The short story goes…

A remarkable feature length youth-led documentary; filmed across the breadth of the United Kingdom in the aftermath of the riots of 2011. Riot From Wrong was born out of a severe need to look deeper than the actions of those that rioted and in doing so it goes right to the heart of the issues affecting our society. On the 4th day of the riots, in the face of the devastation and destruction, surrounded by negativity and misconception, 19 passionate young people from across London came together to take positive action. The critically acclaimed, eye opening documentary RIOT FROM WRONG is a result of that positive action.

In August 2011, thousands of people rioted in several London boroughs and in cities and towns across England – stemming from social and economic inequality, racial profiling, and more.

It all started as a peaceful protest over the police killing of 29-year-old Mark Duggan, a Caribbean resident of the London suburb of Tottenham, which eventually turned into a nationwide chaos.

Certainly topical, even on this side of the pond, in light of recent events.

The film will screen on Tuesday August 6, at 6.30pm, at Genesis Cinema, 93-95 Mile End Road, Whitechapel, London, E1 4UJ
