This was actually one of the films on my list of 2013 anticipated releases; but, announced it January, its release date was pushed from October 182013, to January 172014.

I recall when I posted that announcement from Sony/Screen Gems, I shared that I was a bit puzzled by the release date placement, because, also scheduled to open on January 172014, is another Will Packer-produced film (except this one is for Universal), Ride Along, which stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart.

I figured that one of those 2 films would move to another date, given that, from what we know of each thus far, both would likely be targeting somewhat similar audiences.

Will Packer certainly knows his audience, as he’s proving with past films – most recently Think Like A Man, which was immensely successful for Sony/Screen Gems. But I didn’t think he’d want to be working 2 major releases simultaneously.

Box Office Mojo reveals today that Sony/Screen Gems has moved the release date for Packer’s thriller, No Good Deed, a second time, from January 17, 2014 to April 25, 2014.

As of right now, its only competition that weekend is Transcendence, DP Wally Pfister‘s sci-fi directorial debut, which stars Johnny Depp and Morgan Freeman.

No Good Deed, which stars Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson, centers on a former District Attorney, and mother of 2 young children (Henson), who are kidnapped and terrorized by a handsome but mysterious stranger (Elba), who she lets into their home to wait for help, after his car runs off the road nearby.

Mexican starlet, and the reigning queen of telenovelas, Kate del Castillo and Henry Simmons, round out the starring cast.

Sam Miller (Luther) directed No Good Deed from a script by Aimee Lagos (96 Minutes).

It’s going to be a very busy 2014 for producer Will Packer and his Rainforest Films, with at least 4 films scheduled to be released in 2014 that he and his company produced – the above 2, along with the remake of About Last Night which opens in February, and the sequel to Think Like A Man, which is set for May 2014. So actually, it’ll be a very busy first 5 months of the year for him.
