The Bold and The Beautiful‘s Aaron D. Spears is disappointing fans with his stance on coronavirus vaccine mandates.

The Soap Opera Network reports that Spears, who plays Justin Barber on the CBS soap, has been on Twitter over the weekend posting various questions about the vaccine and why he questions whether mandates should be put in place for vaccinations.

“What’s the difference between never having caught COVID & being vaccinated, compared 2, caught COVID & not vaccinated?” he wrote Friday. “Both people have antibodies, both can still catch it, both can still spread it, both may not catch it as bad the 2nd time around, so what’s the difference? #Help”

“Instead of forcing people to get vaccinated, why not simply have them sign a waiver, that if they [are] NOT vaccinated you can not receive medical attention at a hopsital,” he continued that weekend. “Problem solved. It’s not like the vaccine protects anyone from catching the vicrus or spreading it! #vaxnotvax”

“Why are vaccine mandates being put in place when the vaccine protects NO ONE from getting #COVID or spreading it?” he continued. “It feels like a false safe. If a person is cool with the possibilities of what may happen then so be it. What’s the big deal?!! #Help”

According to the CDC, the vaccine does protect the general public from the coronavirus and variants like the Delta variant. While there can be breakthrough infections in individual cases and there is a risk of people with breakthrough cases possibly transmitting the virus to others, the vaccine can still reduce the time a breakthrough patient is ill. It can also reduce the severity of the breakthrough case and reduce the chances of a patient needing hospitalization or even dying. Even with breakthrough cases as a possibility, the CDC recommends being vaccinated over not being vaccinated at all, the latter of which puts people at risk for severe illness and possibly death.

He also conflated real atrocities Americans levied against people of color and real disinformation campaigns with his suspicions of the vaccine and conspiracies about 9/11, writing, “America told us cigarettes weren’t addictive for 50 years, there were weapons of mass destruction, shook the hands of the Native Americans, told the Tuskegee Airmen they were safe…UFOs didn’t exist…terrorist brought down the towers…”

He mentioned the Tuskegee Airmen in an earlier tweet as well, but within the context of his tweets, it appears he is mistaking the Tuskegee Airmen for the Tuskegee Experiment, which was held by the government to understand the effects of syphilis on the human body. As History states, the experiment took place between 1932 and 1972 and included members of the U.S. Public Health Service using 399 men in Macon County, AL who had latent syphilis and a control group of 201 who weren’t infected, but were treated for “bad blood.” Both groups of men were given placebos instead of being treated for their various ailments, and neither group were informed of the experiment. No care was given to the men who eventually died or suffered from the advanced stages of syphilis. The experiment was finally forced to shut down in 1972 after a whistleblower within the agency, Peter Buxton, sent word to Jean Heller in the Associated Press. However, the Tuskegee Experiment is not at all similar to a vaccine mandate meant to help others.

Spears also admitted that his sister is a nurse working through the pandemic, but while he recognized the horrors the healthcare industry are facing, he still didn’t think it was okay to mandate vaccines. This position is in spite of the CDC stating that vaccinations help reduce the possibility of patients needing hospitalized care.

Spears is not the only soap star choosing to start arguments about vaccinations. General Hospital‘s Ingo Rademacher has also come out against vaccination mandates and vaccine passport requirements on Instagram, as reported by Soap Opera Network. GH fans, however, have started a #FireIngo campaign in response to his statements.
