HBO Max will develop a single-camera half-hour comedy based on the life of comedian Aida Rodriguez. Rodriguez will star in and co-write the comedy, while Tiffany Haddish will executive produce under her production company She Ready Productions.

Chris Case and Nastaran Dibai will co-write and executive produce the project alongside Rodriguez.

The report from Deadline says the project “examines the struggle of an Afro-Latina comedian (Rodriguez) who is trying to kick start a career while raising two very different teenagers on her own over multiple time zones. It is an uplifting story of survival and triumph in the face of a darkly funny Miami ghetto upbringing, where she learned skills that allowed her to thrive and survive.”

Rodriguez, who was a featured comedian on Haddish’s Netflix special Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready, is also a panelist on the YouTube news and opinion show The Young Turks.
