As part of China’s initiative to get the country back on its feet after battling the coronavirus outbreak, the country’s state-owned distributor China Film Group is re-releasing several American films along with Chinese blockbusters to entice people back to the theaters.

According to Variety, some of the titles China Film Group will re-release are Green Book and A Dog’s Purpose. Both of which were backed by Alibaba, headed by China’s richest businessman, CEO Jack Ma. In fact, Ma was an investor in Green Book.

While Ma and Alibaba are why certain American films are getting a second Chinese release, Green Book was the subject of controversy in 2018 after the Shadow And Act investigative piece, “How Green Book And The Hollywood Machine Swallowed Donald Shirley Whole.” However, the film still earned the top Oscar for Best Picture, a controversial win with both BlacKkKlansman and Roma vying for the award.
