In the wake of Cameron Boyce’s death, Disney Channel has canceled their premiere event for the upcoming movie, Descendants 3. Instead, they will honor the 20-year-old actor during the Descendants 3 telecast and donate to a charity that he heavily supported. The red carpet event was set to happen on July 22.

“We’re proud to be part of Cameron Boyce’s legacy by showcasing his talents on screen, but we are cancelling the red carpet premiere event for Descendants 3 (scheduled for July 22) and instead, The Walt Disney Company will make a donation to the Thirst Project, a philanthropic organization to which Cameron was deeply committed,” said the network in a statement. In another statement, they said, “With permission from the Boyce family, Disney Channel will dedicate the telecast of Descendants 3 in Cameron Boyce’s memory.”

Earlier this week, his family confirmed that he died in his sleep due to an epileptic seizure.

“We are still trying to navigate our way through this extremely heart-wrenching time, and continue to ask for privacy so that the family and all who knew and loved him can grieve his loss and make arrangements for his funeral — which in and of itself, is agonizing,” they added in the statement, released Tuesday.

The actor is primarily known for his work on the Disney Channel, including the show Jessie, the Disney XD show Gamer’s Guide to Pretty Much Everything and the Disney Channel original film franchise, Descendants. He has multiple projects that will be released posthumously, Descendants 3 (which will be released in August), the film Runt with Tichina Arnold and the TV series Paradise City. He is also a series regular in the upcoming HBO series, Mrs. Fletcher.

Boyce’s grandmother is civil rights activist Jo Ann Boyce, a member of the Clinton Twelve, the first Black students to go to an integrated school in the South, per Brown v. Board of Education. They integrated their Tennessee high school, which was subject to a series of explosions, almost a year before Little Rock High School was integrated.
