Mary J. Blige and Evan Ross are starring in the upcoming film Pink Skies Ahead, the first feature film by Stampede Ventures.

The film is directed and written by Kelly Oxford and also stars Michael McKean, Odeya Rush, Jessica Barden, Henry Winkler, Lewis Pullman, Devon Bostick, Rosa Salazar and Marcia Gay Harden.

According to Deadline’s report on the film, Barden plays a “wild young woman” named Winona whose life falls into shambles after she drops out of college and moves in with her parents, along with being diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. Blige will play Winona’s therapist Dr. Monroe and McKean will play Robert, Winona’s conservative father who gives her a dead-end job at his property management business.

Ross will play Cameron, the observant husband of Addie, Winona’s friend, and Rush will play a new friend Winona makes, Stephanie. Stephanie is simultaneously described as a “bad influence” and as someone who “sort of has her head screwed on straight.” We’ll see how that’s possible when the film comes out in the future.

Stampede Ventures is a new content creation company that aims to “fund and deliver the next generation of blockbuster entertainment.” The company’s site also mentions that Stampede is “poised to take advantage of the strengths of the old system and the advantages of the emerging one” in a way that will disrupt the industry. The company was founded by Greg Silverman, who is producing Pink Skies Ahead with Lisa Zambri along with Greg Gilreath and Adam Hendricks from Divide/Conquer. Executive producers include Stampede’s Gideon Yu and Chris Bosco as well as Zac Locke.

Blige, an Oscar nominee, has been on a roll with her acting career lately. Recently, the trailer for the third season of Scream, starring Blige, Tyga and Keke Palmer and executive produced by Queen Latifah was released. Blige has also wowed fans with her turn as an assassin on Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, currently streaming.
