Is Jada Pinkett Smith returning to scripted television? In what could be her first regular role since Fox’s Gotham and her first leading role since Hawthorne, she’ll star in the pilot, Straight Talk, which has been set for NBCUniversal’s upcoming streaming service, Peacock. The name of the service and its initial slate were announced on Tuesday.

Other pilots for Peacock include a reboot of Punky Brewster. A Saved by the Bell reboot has been ordered straight-to-series.

The series writer and creator is Kara Brown. Rashida Jones is the pilot director and executive produces the project. Joy Gorman for Anonymous Content and Deniese Davis for ColorCreative executive produce. The studios are Universal Television & Anonymous Content.

Here’s the logline: Straight Talk examines what happens when two opposing ideologies are forced into an odd coupling. The main characters will be challenged by one another, making the moral lines at which they once stood harder to define.

No word on when Peacock will debut.
