Black entertainment was represented in full by the Independent Filmmaker Project, which released its 2018 Gotham Awards nominees. Pose, If Beale Street Could Talk and Sorry to Bother You are among the films nominated for top honors. The awards show will take place on November 26.

If Beale Street Could Talk, directed by Barry Jenkins, is nominated for Best Feature, and actress Kiki Layne, who played Carrie in the film, was nominated for Breakthrough Actor. Sorry to Bother You, directed by Boots Riley, was also nominated for Best Feature, with Lakeith Stanfield nominated for Best Actor. The two films are also up for the Audience Award.

Josephine Decker’s Madeline Madeline, starring Helena Howard, was also nominated for Best Feature, with Howard nominated for Breakthrough Actor. Pose, Ryan Murphy’s ’80s ballroom series on FX starring Ryan Jamaal Swain, Angelica Ross, Dominique Jackson, Hailie Sahar, Billy Porter, Dyllon Burnside, Angel Bismark Curiel and Mj Rodriguez, earned a nomination for Breakthrough Series-Long Form. Joining Pose in the Long Form Breakthrough Series category is Netflix and Nick Kroll’s Big Mouth, starring Jordan Peele, Maya Rudolph, Jak Knight and Craig Robinson.

Other nominees include Hale County This Morning, This Evening; Minding the Gap and Madeline’s Madeline for an Audience Award, Hale County This Morning, This Evening and Minding the Gap for Best Documentary, Regina Hall for Best Actress in Support the Girls and 195 Lewis for Breakthrough Series-Short Form.
