Former Trump administration press secretary Stephanie Grisham has seemingly reached her limit of fielding tough questions from the women of The View.
According to Decider, fellow Republican and semi-permanent guest host Ana Navarro took her to task for not speaking out against the administration earlier after Grisham said that Trump “laughs at [his supporters] behind closed doors.”
"We could fill up an entire library right now of people who were there being his accomplices, and being his minions for four years," said Navarro, adding that she's had to endure four years of "attacks" from Trump administration employees.
Navarro said she believes “people deserve an explanation,” to which Grisham said that she covered why she left the administration earlier in the week. She also started pointing blame at Navarro, apparently blaming Navarro’s outspoken nature about the Trump administration as the reason why Grisham can’t find work now.
“I worked for Mrs. Trump. I moved to the West Wing. I saw things I hated. By that time, I wanted to leave,” she said. ‘And I knew because of, sorry, people like you–who are so against me–that I would not be able to get a job anywhere. When you keep attacking me, you’re attacking a lot of people out there who might need an off ramp.”
She continued, saying that she will do everything she can to make sure Trump doesn't make it back to the White House, but Navarro asked, "Why should people believe you now after four years?" This may have been Grisham's final straw.
“This is not fun for me! I could be at home right now with my dogs and my family and my chickens!” Grisham said, leading Joy Behar to ask Navarro if she believed if it was possible “for someone to see the light and change.”
Navarro reiterated that she didn’t understand why it took four years to understand that Trump was sexist and racist.
“After the way he treated immigrants? After what he said about Mexicans? After hearing the sexual assault boasts on tape? After seeing him make fun of a disabled reporter? You need four years?” said Navarro, to which Grisham replied, “You don’t know the things I stayed in there and stopped.”
Sunny Hostin asked a great question to the both of them, which is why stay a Republican if it's so problematic to the both of them.
While Grisham tried to separate Trump from true Republican ideology, Navarro said that she felt it was important to reform the party from the inside out.
“I think the worst thing that could happen to a minority group is to have one party take you for granted and think you’re going to vote for them because they have no other option, and another party that openly attacks and antagonizes you,” Navarro said. “I hope that one day, there are two healthy parties competing for our vote.”
Hostin, however, disagreed, saying, "I think it's time to cut faith."
“And I think that when you have a party that is so sick and divisive, and so harmful to this country, I think standing in that party makes you complicit,” she continued.
While there might be a clear difference of opinion about the legitimacy of the Republican party within the fabric of America’s democracy, it is clear that The View still loves having a divisive panel; the show is still trying to find its permanent Republican co-host, despite Navarro being routinely asked to fill in. While fans seem to like Navarro, they are extremely frustrated with the series continually bringing on conservatives who refute common sense policies, such as the coronavirus pandemic response.
