UPDATE: Jamie Foxx has pretty much given away that he WILL indeed be playing Electro in the next Spider-Man movie. Not long after the news broke, he tweeted the following:

Here's the original report:

Alright those of you who are intimately familiar with the Spider-Man universe… calling for you assistance with this one.

Variety is reporting that Jamie Foxx is in talks to play the villain Sony's sequel to this past summer's The Amazing Spider-ManThe Amazing Spider-Man 2.

However, the studio doesn't say what villain exactly Foxx will play; but Variety says its sources tell them that Foxx will play Electro – he who is able to store, project, and manipulate electricity with his body, and can manipulate magnetic fields as well. Not only can he fly, but he can also travel along electricity lines and through electrical appliances!

Impressive set of abilities there, won't you say?

Apparently, in the post-credit sequence of The Amazing Spider-Man, there's a hint that Electro would be in the sequel.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are on board to return with Marc Webb also set to return to direct.

Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the sequel.

The Amazing Spider-Man grossed $751 million worldwide, and the sequel, which will be in 3D, is set to be released on May 2, 2014.

Ok, Spider-Man geniuses… are you excited about this news? And if it's NOT Electro, then what other villain might Foxx be playing?
