Here are the first 5 minutes of a feature-length documentary film co-directed by Nelson George and Diane Paragas, titled, Brooklyn Boheme.

Currently in post-production, the documentary “gives a first hand account of this vibrant African American artistic community that includes the great Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Branford Marsalis, Rosie Perez, Saul Williams, Lorna Simpson just to name a few… and follows the rise of a new kind of African American artist, the Brooklyn Boheme.“

Nelson George, a resident of the New York City borough himself, narrates the film, which he tells me will be submitted to film festivals starting this month. So, we’ll be looking for it in screenings around the country later this year.

I’ve lived in Brooklyn for the last 6 years, with no plans to leave anytime soon; so this is a project of definite interest to me. In addition, if my understanding of what Nelson and Diane mean with the film’s title, you can consider me a Brooklyn Boheme too 😉

Nelson’s certainly been busy lately, with another feature film about a collective of international art thieves, titled Migrations, which is currently shooting in various locations around the world, like Berlin, Paris, London and of course New York. MsWOO profiled the project on S&A in April HERE.
