Crew leaving for Costa Rica already. A year and half of writing and prep is coming to an end. #AfterEarth will begin shooting on Feb. 6th.
Words tweeted by director M. Night Shyamalan late last night.
And if you haven't been paying attention, he's talking about the Will Smith and Jaden Smith sci-fi action/adventure project 1000 A.E. that he, M. Night Shyamalan, is directing.
A brief recap… the post-apocalyptic a father and son (Will and Jaden of course) who crashland on an earth that has become uninhabitable, and the son, considered a failure as a warrior, is put in a position in which he has to save his father, who has already proven his worth as a hero.
Zoe Kravitz and Sophie Okonedo were "in talks" to star as sister/daughter and mother/wife respectively, and I assume they are now in the movie.
And you all thought that they'd just cast Willow and Jada. Psssht! 🙂
Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Syriana) was recently brought on to polish up Shaymalan's script (a very good idea IMHO), and Colombia Pictures is said to be planning a June 2013 release.
I'm guessing both the sister and mother roles will be peripheral to the core story between father and son, in what will likely be more of a coming-of-age tale (or coming-into-his-own) tale with Jaden as the real star of the film.
So this should be Will's next after Men In Black 3, which will be released this summer.
