Valentine’s Day for singles can sometimes be a sad self-pitying day, but it doesn’t have to be. There’s no reason to pity yourself because self-love is love more powerful than love that can come from any other person. So, if you’re looking forward to celebrating yourself and all of your badass #BlackGirlMagic here are 14 ways that you can do so this Valentine’s Day:
If you feel like staying in…
1. Cozy up with your favorite bottle of wine.
Vino is always good for the soul. Enjoy the wine that you reserve for special occasions with no apologies.
2. Eat your favorite chocolates and candies.
It is Valentine’s day, isn’t it? Pro-tip: if you wait until February 15th, the candy will be half-price.
3. Buy yourself a Valentine’s Day card.
On the inside write a list of all of the reasons why you love yourself. Remember, there’s no better love than self-love.
4. Cook an ambitious meal.
Grab some groceries and make yourself a homemade meal. There’s no kind of love like the love that’s put into home-cooked food.
5. Order out (if you’re not about that cooking life).
There’s nothing wrong if pizza is really your first true love.
6. Binge watch a TV show that you’ve already finished.
There’s nothing like re-living the moment when Melanie slaps Derwin for cheating on her with Drew Sidora. Pro-tip: the first few seasons of The Game are on Netflix.
7. Watch all of your favorite movies.
For those of us who really aren’t TV people, movie binge sessions will always bring us to high spirits.
If you feel like going out or don’t want to be alone…
8. Get your nails done.
For all of you nail salon addicts, make sure to get the special pedicure or massage that your pedicurist is always trying to sell you.
9. Treat yourself to a massage.
Massages are great for relieving stress and tension. If it’s your first time, you can find a good, cheap deal on Groupon or LivingSocial.
10. Take yourself to a new restaurant.
If you’re not afraid of eating alone, try that restaurant that you’ve been waiting for someone to take you to.
11. Two words: paint and sip
Painting is a form of therapeutic release and drinking wine is as well. Go to a Paint and Sip session, or any version of a BYOB paint session in your city. Beware of the Valentine’s Day couples.
12. Do something new in your city.
Maybe skydiving isn’t for you but you can expand your mind by going to a museum, seeing a new art exhibit or volunteering. The world is your oyster — treat it that way.
13. Go shopping and buy yourself something new.
If you don’t have anyone to buy something for, there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself. You deserve it!
14. Spend the day with your girls.
Let’s face it, there’s nothing like a little bit of time well-spent with your girls — the true baes.
However you choose to celebrate, just be sure to celebrate! Who’s to say Valentine’s Day is reserved for couples?
