More than 440 players participated in the 13th Annual KCF All-Girls National Chess Championship. Jada Hamilton was one of the many eager contestants and her concentration led her to victory in the final round. Hamilton’s diligence helped to land her University Prep Science & Math team a first place championship ranking in the “Under 14” category.

This is not the first time this team competed in this particular contest. Although they have won other tournaments in the past, according to their coach Kevin Fite, they rose from their underdog status to finally win this title. The girls’ passion and training helped them to achieve their goal.

“I was pretty amazed,” Hamilton told Detroit News. “It’s hard to describe how I felt that day because I was really happy.”

Congratulations ladies!!
