Either Marvel is trolling the entire world right now, or Black Panther is going to be the best superhero film of all time. On the heels of the news that Lupita N’yongo is in negotiations to co-star alongside Chadwick Boseman, it’s been reported and confirmed that Michael B. Jordan is officially joining the cast.
If you saw Fruitvale Station or Creed (which by now I’m hoping you have), you know that the Ryan Coogler-MBJ team up is a living, breathing dynamo of Black brotherhood and excellent performance. With Chadwick Boseman joining the group and a likely addition of Disney actress Lupita Nyong’o, the peak blackness may reach a level so potent that the entire film industry collapses in on itself and disappears from the face of the earth – or just shatters the box office into a million tiny little pieces.
Black Panther would be Jordan’s first superhero film since the critically and commercially panned Fantastic Four reboot, after which he desperately needs a shot to restore his cred in the genre (even if he was the best part of the film). And there seems like no better way to do it than join the cast of what now looks to be, more than ever, a film that will be remembered as one of the best comic book genre films that will exist.
There’s a rumor that Jordan may get to stretch himself and really use his acting chops to portray a villain across from Boseman, which would be an epic sight to see. However, no official character details have been released. The lead up to Black Panther in February of 2018 just got a little more exciting and excruciating at the same time. I know that fans of the character, like me, just want to hop in a Delorean, Marty McFly style, and head straight to their local movie theater when it opens so they can watch this one as many times as they can show it in one night.
