A viral video, which first surfaced on Facebook before it was removed, shows a gruesome altercation between a Black high school student in Louisville, Kentucky, and a white teacher, who allegedly used the N-word and told the teen that he will be just another "Black boy that got shot."

The 16-year-old student, Jamir Strane, said the fight started after his chemistry teacher, William Bennett, reprimanded him for using a bandana as a mask.

"He thinks I was a delinquent. He thought I was out here in the streets," Jamir said according to the Courier Journal.

The educator allegedly continued to spew derogatory remarks toward the young man, who says he has PTSD from having been shot last year and from having lost several friends to gun violence.

"He said, 'You're just going to be another Black boy shot,'" the teen said as he explained the sequence of events which lead to the fight. "I'm going to put it in English. He said that you're just going to end up in the streets dead, in my mind, like all my friends."

The chaotic scene in the video shows Bennett pinning Strane to the floor of the hallway at Marion C. Moore School. The 16-year-old said he started the fight after the teacher's remarks. As the teen tried to fight back, dozens of other students yelled at Bennett and tried to pull him off.

"Yo man, get the f**k off him!" a student can be heard saying.

Another adult also tried to break up the fight. But the teacher proceeds to pull Strane by the hair as the violence escalates and knees him in the face at one point.

"I look at that as getting revenge, because you didn't have no reason to keep pulling my hair," Strane, who eventually broke free and walked away, told WDRB. "Even as a student is trying to pull you off of me, and you're still fighting me."

Protesters gathered outside of the school on Monday to pressure the district to respond to the incident. Jefferson County Public Schools later announced that the teacher has been reassigned to non-instructional duties in the district's materials production department while the investigation continues.

"Right now exactly what happened is being reviewed, it's being looked at, and while that review is taking place, we know the teacher will not be in the classroom," said Renee Murphy, a spokesperson for the district. "The review will talk to witnesses and they will gather more information about any kind of verbal exchanges that took place."

The teen's mother, Erica Strane, said she understands why her son would want to retaliate after hearing the teacher's comments.

"To be told that you're just another boy that's going to be shot dead, I could see where that could trigger his PTSD," she said. "Like I said, my son — he's not a saint. He has his flaws. But, again, I can understand where the PTSD was triggered."

Strane has been suspended from school for at least 10 days. He is also charged with assault. The family is now looking for a lawyer to help them fight the charge.

"I got social anxiety from all the stuff I've been through over the last two years," the young man said. "It's eat or be eaten out here."

The family has launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds for a lawyer.

"My son has been attacked by his teacher. We are starting a go fund me page for any lawyer fees that might be incurred and Expenses we may have," Erica wrote. "I will be off of work for as long as it takes to get justice for my son. I’m dedicating 100% of my time to my son. Every little bit helps. Please keep us in your prayers."
