Ariana Grande dropped the visuals for her Eternal Sunshine hit “the boy is mine,” and after much speculation, fans can’t get over who made a special appearance.

Of course, the song is a reimagining of sorts of the 1998 chart-topping, iconic hit from Brandy and Monica.

According to Variety, the music video, which was directed by Christian Breslauer, sees Grande’s character channel Catwoman in order to bag Mayor Max Starling, played by You star Penn Badgley.

At the top of the video, we see Grande’s character watch two news anchors, played by Brandy and Monica, announce the major’s upcoming address to the media, in which he shares he’s released feral cats into the streets to take care of a rat infestation.

Buzz of Badgley’s cameo in the video sparked last week, after Grande shared film photos of her on set of the music video on Instagram.

As for Brandy and Monica, their appearances were more under wraps, though fans began to suspect something was up one Grande followed both Brandy and Monica this week on Instagram just as it was revealed the video would be coming.

Grande also performed the song Thursday night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and gave a nod to the OG track.

Fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, can’t get enough of their cameos.

The singers also posted on Instagram to commemorate the moment. The music video also came just one day after the 26th anniversary of the original “The Boy Is Mine” reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was at the top spot for 13 weeks and its the most successful all-women music collaboration of all time.

Monica commented on Grande’s Instagram post about the video and said “Love to you ALWAYS.”

Grande then wrote on her Instagram story, “You have no idea what this means to me,” she wrote on Instagram Stories. “I am still convinced that I’m dreaming it all.”

She also reposted Monica and Brandy’s Instagram post and said, “i am still crying.”

Along with the video, Grande has been pushing the highly-anticipated big screen adaptation of Wicked, in which she plays Glinda the Good Witch opposite Cynthia Erivo‘s Elphaba. A trailer for the film recently dropped, giving fans a taste of Grande and Erivo singing two of the show’s biggest songs: “Popular” and “Defying Gravity.” Wicked comes out on Nov. 27, while its sequel is scheduled for Nov. 26, 2025.
