Cardi B has been speaking out about politics lately, even saying she wants to run for president in 2024 on tax and welfare reform platforms. She also had some choice words for the sitting president, Donald Trump, in her cover feature (with Offset) for Rolling Stone.
“Every artist has explained how harmful he is. He has made divisions in this country – he almost made a crazy civil war between the blacks and the whites," she exclaimed. "He has proven himself to be a madman so many times, and proven himself to be disrespectful to women, and that still hasn’t gotten him impeached. Clinton got impeached for cheating on his wife, and it’s so clear that this n***a has sex with so many porn stars, and he’s just been shown to be a dickhead, and it’s like, ‘Nope.’”
The Invasion of Privacy artist and mother-to-be also spoke her mind about gun control. Cardi thinks gun laws should be stricter and potential gun owners should undergo rigorous mental evaluations.
However, she is here for the Second Amendment, arguing armed citizens may eventually be the final defense against tyranny in the United States.
"God forbid, the government tries to take us over, and we can't defend ourselves because we don't have no weapons," she said. "How do you think American colonizers went to Africa and it was so easy for them to get those people? Because they had guns. No matter what weapon you have, you can't beat a gun."
"[The government has] weapons like nuclear bombs that we don't have. So imagine us not having any weapons at all," she continued.
President Trump has yet to respond.
It wasn't all politics and serious topics for Cardi during the interview. A few months ago, the rapper tweeted she'd just learned Donald Glover is Childish Gambino. She deleted the tweet, but it was widely reported on by outlets such as NME.
Many people thought she was kidding; others made fun of her.
But Cardi set the record straight: "When you look for him on Apple, his covers are not his face, so how the f**k am I supposed to know him?" she said. "Everybody's judging me and calling me stupid, and it's like, 'F**k ya, leave me alone.'"
