Life comes at you fast, but sometimes the internet is faster. Fox News contributor Lawrence Jones has been ridiculed mercilessly on Twitter after posting a photo of himself in a protective vest while reporting from the U.S.-Mexico border.

Almost immediately, Twitter users had questions about Jones' choice of vest wear. Dozens of reporters and residents questioned why he needed the vest at all, much less one missing the critical ingredient to, you know, stop bullets.

Although he also tweeted photos of himself without the vest, Jones later claimed on Sean Hannity's show that U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers told him he needed to wear it. Reporters with years of experience covering the border quickly and expertly debunked the claim.

Veteran border reporters like Priscilla Estrada, Claudia Tristán and Jacob Soboroff all said this was a blatant attempt to make the U.S.-Mexico border seem more dangerous than it is, and each tweeted photos of themselves without gear while covering stories along the border.

Unfortunately, the internet was far less kind to Jones, and he quickly turned into the meme of the day.

And my personal favorite:

Even Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) got in on the fun. Jones eventually tweeted other photos of himself with real bulletproof vests on and continues to claim that Border Patrol made him wear it, even though multiple news outlets have proven that statement to be false.

Thankfully, he isn't taking the roasting too personally, going so far as to say he may "make it my trademark, like Deray’s blue vest."
