Malikah Shabazz, daughter of Malcolm X, was found deceased on Monday at her home, ABC7NY reports.

Police said the 56-year-old was discovered in her Midwood home in Brooklyn by her daughter. Shabazz’s daughter made the 911 call for help, and when police arrived, she was found unresponsive around 4:40 p.m, according to the New York Post.

Investigators don’t suspect foul play, according to sources, but an inspection is underway to determine Shabazz’s cause of death. 

"At this point in time, working with other authorities, the medical examiner, and speaking to the family, she had been ill for a period of time, and at this point, nothing appears suspicious,” Dermot Shea, the commissioner for the New York Police Department, said, according to ABC7NY.

Shea said he believes there's no reason to search for a suspect in the case, and did not elaborate on further details.

Shabazz was one of the twins born after her father was shot and killed at the Audubon Ballroom in New York City on Feb. 21, 1965. Her death comes two days after two men convicted of her father’s assassination, Muhammad Aziz and the late Khalil Islam, were exonerated, The New York Times reports.

Bernice King, daughter of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., took to Twitter to express her condolences.

“I’m deeply saddened by the death of Malikah Shabazz."
