Nutritionist Bryanne Hackman took to social media to share how many calories a bowl of fried plantains is.

In the video, Hackman tells her followers, “As much as I don’t like to admit this, fried plantains have calories.”

“Looks can be deceiving but portion sizes always tell the truth,” she said, adding that a small portion of the tasty African dish is 1,017 calories.

Content creator and MC Beverly Adaeze addressed the unsolicited revelation. She posted a response video where she questioned Hackman and her intentions.

“Sister who asked you?” Adaeze asked in the video. “Who asked you? Nobody. It’s like you woke up and said, ‘What can I do to Africans, Caribbean people, Hispanic people. What can I do to take away their joy this morning.”

Fans echoed her sentiments in the comments.

Twitter users went in on Hackman, with most asking the nutritionist to let us have fried plantains.

Other tweets argued that calorie counting, especially of African foods, “is giving colonizer vibes.”

Hackman quickly hopped on her platform to clarify her controversial statements about fried plantain.

“Friend plantain is my favorite food, and as I said in the clip, you don’t have to cut it out,” she explained. “But if your goal is weight management or a healthy lifestyle, just manage the portion. You can also bake, boil, or use less oil.”
