Exceptional teachers will give their students more than an education. They'll sometimes dedicate their personal time to ensuring their students succeed.

Eighteen-year-old Larresha Plummer was hesitant about taking her 3-week-old child on public transit to attend a job fair. So, she hit up an old teacher on Facebook.

"There was no way I would have let her take a baby in a bus. I told her right away that I would pick her up in the morning," Carter told CNN.

It's been nearly three years since Plummer was a student of Carter's at Harper High. Although Carter has taken a new position at another school, she's kept in touch with her old students.

Carter picked Plummer up, drove her to the job fair and babysat the newborn.

"Sometimes as a teacher, our jobs go beyond the classroom… she's a young teenage mom, and she needs some help," Carter said on her viral Facebook post. "I'm gonna do what I can, as much as I can as an educator, but know I can't do it all by myself."

But that was not the only thing she did that day. Carter took the two to a Women, Infants and Children (WIC) office to apply for benefits to get Plummer out of a financial rough patch, ABC 7 Chicago reports. And she asked friends during her Facebook livestream to donate childcare goods to the young mother.

"Because of the murder rate in Chicago, we have such a bad reputation, but we can't be afraid to help others," Carter said. "I believe every day, we get the opportunity to be someone's miracle."
