An Ohio high schooler's racist prom proposal banned him from attending the dance, and he only has himself to blame for his wrongdoing.

"If I was Black I'd be picking cotton but I'm white so I'm picking u for prom," read the Clear Fork High School student's sign to his hopeful date.

While TMZ reports it remains unclear whether the date said yes or no, it doesn't matter. The school superintendent banned the offender from taking part in the festivities.

"To be frank with you I thought, 'Oh my goodness this is awful," Clear Fork Valley Local Schools Superintendent Janice Wyckoff said to WGN TV.

The student has refused to make a public statement; however, Wyckoff confirmed to CNN the individual apologized via social media.

"I'm sorry for upsetting anyone, I didn't mean it like that. I'm really sorry, I will say sorry to anyone," the superintendent said he wrote. "I didn't mean to hurt you or anything like that, it was just for a laugh. I'm sorry, I really am. I'll say it to your face or anything really."

Wyckoff did not reveal whether the student will face any disciplinary action; however, she hopes this provides a teachable moment for him and other students thinking of pulling a similar offense.

"This is a process, growing up is a process, and this is one of those moments that's a teachable moment for this kid that will last a lifetime," Wyckoff told WGN TV. "Kids need to understand, when you're celebrating things it doesn't give you a pass on using inappropriate racial slurs."

Unfortunately, this isn't the only instance this week where a student's "hilarious" attempt at racist promposals landed them in hot water. According to Fox 11 in Los Angeles, a senior at LA’s Garfield Senior High School stirred controversy and backlash on Wednesday after she was pictured smiling and holding a sign that read "Do you want to be like a n****r and hang at prom?" with an image of someone hanging from a tree.
